about

Just like Stax, Motown, Atlantic or Hi-Records used to do, the track (and all the EP’s + Album that will follow) was recorded taking advantage of the latest recording techniques but basically the good old way: a tight rhythm section playing together in a room, with SirJo on keys and vocals and his trusted musicians (on drums, bass and guitar) laying down the groove. In this instance even the vocal take is the one recorded during the original session and it captures the spirit of the song, which was recorded very shortly after it was written: SirJo was recording Hammond organs and backup vocals (with the great Lisa Fischer) for Vaneese Thomas while on a trip to NYC and during the breaks he sat at the piano and wrote the song in half a day: in his words, “Sometimes it takes a while to complete a song, this one just happened to come out real quick!”. SirJo recorded it a few days after coming back from NYC with his musicians in Milan: “songs can be like vegetables, if you store them for too long they might go bad”.

lyrics

LOVE FEVER (SirJo Cocchi)

Can’t you see lady
He’s not the right one
He puts you down way too much
And it’s not even fun
To see him hustlin’ for some loving
But it ain’t the right kind
He just wants to hold on to you
Cause where else could he find

Someone so smooth and tough
Lady let me tell you I do really understand him
Cause you’re way more then enough
To give a man love fever how could I blame him

He even calls you “fatty” I know he’s joking
But that’s so uncool
He shakes you , grabs you and winds onto you
Like you were his own spool
Mind you I ain’t saying that as a man, all in all
He ain’t no good, but you told me yourself
You’re keeping him at distance, cause you’re not so sure
But here’s one thing I know

You’re someone so smooth and tough
Lady let me tell you I do really understand him
Cause you’re way more then enough
To give a man love fever how could I blame him

For falling in love with you
For trying to hold on to you
You know I ain’t envious
I just hope that someday
I’ll too have my chance
To walk with you alone
And hold you And kiss you
And make sweet and rough love with you

Someone so smooth and tough
Lady let me tell you I do really understand him
Cause you’re way more then enough
To give a man love fever how could I blame him

about

SirJo Cocchi Milano, Italy

I'm a singer-songwriter, atypical keyboardist and producer, I'm based in Milan, Italy and my sound is a SoulFunkPop trip where I mix modern and vintage. I started singing as a kid and developed a vertical, grooving approach to the keyboard also because I was born with dysmelia in my left hand. The Songbook Chronicles is my current project, a series of 6 interconnected thematic EPs. ... more
